Rising Romance Works Well Ahead of Australian Oaks

April 16th, 2014

New Zealand-based trainer Donna Logan is confident of success for talented stayer Rising Romance in this weekend’s Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) after completing tough and successful work with the three-year-old on Tuesday.

Highlighting the Oaks as the major target for the talented three-year-old upon arriving in Australia prior to the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), Logan told TVN that while not ideal surface conditions, Rising Romance will line up for this weekend’s Group 1 in peak condition.

“It’s going to be a very heavy track on Saturday, it will be really tough out there” Logan said.

“I’m very pleased with her work. James (Mcdonald, jockey) got off her this morning and he was pleased with her work; that’s what we want.

“She worked over 2000 metres today, which is more than we would do at home.”

Debuting on Australian tracks with a strong turn of foot to overcome poor position and finish a fighting fourth in the Vinery Stud Stakes on April 5th, Logan said the Ekraar filly had returned to work well and had shown no signs of strain.

“Better than I had hoped, year, she has really improved” Logan said Rising Romance’s condition.

“It holds lots of fear for us; she has never been tested in these conditions.”

Securing an impressive total of three wins and three places from only nine competitive race starts, Rising Romance was unlucky when blocked for a run and fourth in the Industry Security Specialists Plate (1200m) in her debut race on October 16th, but quickly strode to the forefront of New Zealand staying when winning the Group 2 Royal Stakes (200m) on January 1st.

Finishing second to Puccini in both the Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) and Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) in her final two races prior to crossing the ditch, Rising Romance will be offered strong opportunity to return to the winner’s circle this weekend, having drawn the ideal barrier 4 for the 2014 Australian Oaks.

A favourite amongst punters last time out, Rising Romance is currently offered on the third line of betting for success in the 2014 Australian Oaks at a quote of $6.50.

Winner of the Vinery Stud Stakes last time out, Lucia Valentina is currently sole occupant on the top line of Australian Oaks betting at short $2.50 odds, ahead of Zanbagh ($6).
