With some of the most talented three-year-old Australian fillies currently in work and confirmed to target the Group 1 on Day 2 of The Championships, the 2015 Australian Oaks is already building as a particularly interesting race from a betting standpoint.

Breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of spring, trainer John Thompson has revealed talented filly First Seal is likely to step up to 2400m for the Australian Oaks and as a result is currently featured as outright $5 favourite for success.

Finishing outside the places only once through her six start career so far, First Seal appeared on course just once during the 2014 Autumn Carnival; a competitive run for fourth amongst classy competition in a minor over 1250m.

Charging home to win the Daily Press Group Plate (1100m) upon her racing return, the Fastnet Rock filly placed second to Sweynesse in the TAB Early Quaddie 3.y.o (1400m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and comfortably finding the line three lengths in the clear in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 4th.

Running second to Hampton Court in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) last time out, First Seal has reportedly taken well to her time in the paddock and will likely return to racing two months prior to the 2015 Australian Oaks.

A proven performer over the distance, Ciaron Maher-trained Set Square arguably offers punters the best value for money in early Australian Oaks betting markets; currently registering as sole occupant of the second line at a quote of $6.

Placing third in a minor over 1354m on debut, the daughter of Reset broke through for a maiden race win in the Sportsbet-Fixed Odds Plate (1600m) on October 8th before making a successful transition to black type racing when taking out the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m).

Jumping from the gates only fairly in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 6th, Set Square settled three back on the fence, receiving a relatively good run in transit before exploding from the pack in the final straight to chalk up a victory at the highest level.

Classy three-year-old Winx ran a close second to First Seal in each of the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes over spring and currently figures as $7 third favourite to take out the 2015 Australia Oaks.

Yet to finish outside the places in five starts, the Street Cry filly most notably delivered Earthquake only her second race defeat in the Group 3 Furious Stakes (1200m) on Randwick on September 6th.
