2015 Australian Oaks Late Mail

April 11th, 2015

Three leading contenders in Fenway, Adrift and Wine Tales have been scratched from this afternoon’s Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick; completing opening up the race for three-year-old fillies from a betting standpoint.

Fenway was a punters’ pick to take out the Australian Oaks after comfortably winning the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago but since her removal on Friday afternoon, attention had turned largely to the Chris Waller-trained Winx; available at odds of $3.30 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Stamping her claims as one to watch over the 2014 Spring Carnival, Winx won the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) first-up before finishing second to standout filly First Seal in each of the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

Having won the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) and finished fifth in the Vinery in her two most recent starts, Waller is confident the daughter of Street Cry will find a pet running distance at 2400m, who arguably offers punters the best value for money as a selection in a 2015 Australian Oaks quinella or trifecta bet.

Both New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria and local hope Ballet Suite have experienced notable attention in 2015 Australian Oaks betting markets and remain locked together on the second line at current $5.50 quotes each.

The standout filly of the current crop of New Zealand three-year-olds, Savaria quickly built to the task this season; finishing second in the Oaks Prelude (1800m) and winning the Group 3 Lowland Stakes (2100m) leading into her maiden Group 1 triumph on March 14th.

Winning the Colin Glover BM67 (1400m) first-up on February 18th, Ballet Suite has continued to impress in taking out the TAB Multi Place BM70 (1600m) and placing fourth in the Vinery most recently.

While needing some luck in running from barrier 13, the High Chaparral filly has been confirmed to be partnered by leading Irish jockey Ryan Moore and appears to be peaking for success in the Australian Oaks.

Thunder Lady ($6) remains steady in late 2015 Australian Oaks betting and offers great value for money at her current quote, while Gust Of Wind ($13) is more than worth consideration for a bet this afternoon at double figure odds.
