2016 Australian Oaks the Target for Valley Girl

February 16th, 2016

New Zealand-based trainer Donna Logan has experienced plenty of success in hit-and-run missions with her stable’s stars in Australia through recent seasons, and is confident classy filly Valley Girl has the means to win the 2016 Australian Oaks (2400m) on Day 2 of The Championships in April.

Valley Girl has already stamped herself as a potential star through her short but impressive racing career so far, but booked her ticket to Australia and the 2016 Australian Oaks with a classy performance to win the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa over the weekend.

Logan has been understandably thrilled with the form and class displayed by the Mastercraftsman filly so far and is confident she will lay a great account for herself during her 2016 Australian Oaks campaign.

“Valley Girl will definitely come now,” Logan told AAP.

“I’m excited about her especially as she beat a weight-for-age field.

“She is the first filly to win the race and she will run in the New Zealand Derby and then come over for the Oaks.

“I’d like to win another.”

Valley Girl immediately announced herself to the New Zealand racing community when debuting to competition for fourth in a Listed 3.y.o Plate (1500m) at Ellerslie on November 28th before progressing to third in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) on Boxing Day.

Luckless when blocked for a run late and fifth in the Group 2 Royal Stakes (2000m) on New Year’s Day, the filly out of Leigh Valley broke through for a maiden race win in the Special Conditions Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie in her only other start prior to the Herbie Dyke Stakes on January 24th.

Logan already has one Australian Oaks triumph to her name, having saddled talented filly Rising Romance to the honour in 2014.
