New Zealand Oaks winner Bonneval is yet to herald much interest in 2017 Australian Oaks betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, but remains an outright $4 favourite to win the race, ahead of Harlow Gold ($5) and Nurse Kitchen ($5.50).

Will Bonneval justify favouritism and win the 2017 Australian Oaks, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?

Harlow Gold ($5)

Harlow Gold appears as though she will find her best form over a mile and a half and should prove extremely tough to beat in the Australian Oaks 2017. Returning to the paddock after running second to Lasqueti Spirit in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), the daughter of Tavistock resumed this time for third in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) and has since placed fourth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and third in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m). Harlow Gold will be partnered by in-form hoop Mark Zahra for the first time in the race and should find a good position off the early pace from her wide draw.

Bonneval ($4)

Bonneval has undoubtedly been the class filly of the current New Zealand three-year-old crop and she should again find herself right in the finish of the Australian Oaks on Saturday. Having resumed for third in the Group 3 Wellfield Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) on January 26th, the daughter of Makfi returned to winning form in the Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) before repeating that effort in each of the Group 3 Little Avondale Lowland Stakes (2100m) and Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) most recently. Bonneval undoubtedly steps up in class into the Australian Oaks field, but is drawn favourably and has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Lasqueti Spirit ($8)

Lasqueti Spirit’s impressive leading capabilities were no match for Jameka at her most recent start, but she is sure to relish a return to fillies’ company and should be right in the finish of the Australian Oaks. Having announced her abilities to the greater Australian racing community when she led from start to finish in the Crown Oaks in spring, the Beneteau filly clearly required a run when tenth in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) first-up, but finished second behind Winx in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at her next start. Having since run seventh in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) and fifth in Group 1 The BMW (2400m), Lasqueti Spirit is drawn well to take up the early running and should have the fitness in her legs to sustain a strong run to the line.
