In the upset result of this year’s Doncaster Mile Day, Michael Kent’s smart Redoute’s Choice filly Absolutely beat home a quality field of fellow three-year-old fillies to win the $550,000 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Coming off a second place finish in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2008m) at Morphettville, Absolutely went out as a $31 roughie in the 100th AJC Oaks odds.

In a brave performance on a muddy Randwick track, Absolutely ($31) and jockey Brad Rawiller handled the conditions impressively and were able to defeat Australian Guineas / Australian Derby double winner Shamrocker ($3.50F) by an emphatic three and a half lengths.

Greg Eurell’s progressive filly Pinker Pinker ($8.50) finished off the winning 2011 AJC Oaks trifecta a further half length away while Fibrillation was the next best placed six lengths back from the winner.

Absolutely broke her maiden status in becoming the AJC Australian Oaks winner and gave Kent his first Group 1 winner since his return from Singapore five years ago.

Prepared at Cranbourne, Absolutely was a $150,000 purchase as a yearling and has now started seven times for one win and three minor placings earning $447,000 in prize money.

Absolutely is set to be sent for a spell before being brought back in the spring where the prestigious 2011 Caulfield Cup will likely be her main aim.

Futures betting on the upcoming Group 1 features throughout the year like the Caulfield Cup is a great way to really lock in some generous odds and clean out the bookies.

The 2011 Australian Oaks is less than a day away and many punters are starting to make their picks for the Group 1 over 2400m at Randwick Racecourse.

So to help you out we’ve put together our trifecta and will tell you exactly why we think our top three will fill the podium at the end of the 2011 Australian Oaks.

1st – #2 Brazilian Pulse

We’re picking her to win this event based on her run last start which we think showed a little bit more than Shamrocker.

On the surface that sounds absurd but when you dissect the race it actually starts to make sense.

From the gate things didn’t go the way of Brazilian Pulse and on a dead track on a windy day she was trapped three wide without cover for nearly the entire trip.

She may as well have been last on the turn and from that point she was never going to win the race.

Despite all this though she charged home and hit the line the best of them in claiming third spot putting her in the best shape for the Australian Oaks.

She’s currently a $4.40 hope with online bookmaker Luxbet, that’s out from $4.00 and wethink punters are getting it wrong in their early betting.

2nd – #1 Shamrocker

She won’t be far away and it wouldn’t surprise us if it was a photo on the line.

She beat the boys last start and in all honesty is the deserved favourite with the dual Group 1 winner coming into this race in outstanding form.

Still, despite the winning run in the Australian Derby we think the race fell her way and she could be ridden exactly to plan the entire trip.

It won’t be so easy in the Australian Oaks and in a field with such good talent she’ll need to work to find a run and as yet we’re not convinced she can push through and keep going.

The punters love her though and she’s been backed in from a $2.95 open now into a $2.45 fixed price with Luxbet.

3rd – #7 Fibrillation

This is a very classy filly who just needs a bit of luck and she’ll be well and truly towards the top of the field late.

Last start you could put her in a similar category to Brazilian Pulse with a wide run early and she had to do plenty of work before they even straightened.

When they did she was the widest of the lot but still had the pace to go right around them and claim second spot.

She finished one place ahead of Brazilian Pulse in the end and she’s a real threat at big odds.

Currently at Luxbet she’s steady on a $10 quote but paying a lot less with other bookmakers.

If you like or tips and want to get on board make sure you register an account with Luxbet to claim the best industry odds.

The 2011 AJC Australian Oaks will certainly be a highlight at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday April 16th.

There are 17 horses in a red hot field with half a dozen genuine wining threats and some of the most in-form horses in the country.

Shamrocker is an early Luxbet favourite after accounting for the boys last start in the Australian Derby.

Brazilian Pulse hasn’t lost too many friends either after finishing third in the Storm Queen stakes and she’s well and truly in the hunt.

Challengers are expected to come from the likes of Fibrillation and Mijulisa Lass.

In terms of roughies you certainly wouldn’t want to write off Crafty Irna at juicy odds.

To claim any of these horses at big fixed price odds while they last log onto Luxbet now.

2011 AJC Australian Derby Form Guide

#1 – Shamrocker (Barrier – 4) (56kgs)

Trainer: Danny O’Brien

Jockey: Glen Boss

Career Stats: 12s – 4w – 3p

Last Start: 1st at Randwick

Double Group 1 winner that is in career best form herself and probably better form than the rest of the field. If she runs as well as last start she wins.

Bet on Shamrocker now at Luxbet

#2 – Brazilian Pulse (Barrier – 1) (56kgs)

Trainer: Michael Moroney

Jockey: Craig Williams

Career Stats: 9s – 5w – 4p

Last Start: 3rd at Rosehill

Never missed a place but that almost changed last week when she was last on the turn. Managed to put in a super run to make up plenty of ground but can’t give them that much of a start here.

Bet on Brazilian Pulse now at Luxbet

#3 – Do Ra Mi (Barrier – 2) (56kgs)

Trainer: Peter Moody

Jockey: Luke Nolen

Career Stats: 8s – 3w – 2p

Last Start: 5th at Rosehill

Had the prime run in the Storm Queen but never fired a shot down the home straight. Form prior was great but she could be at the end of her prep.

Bet on Do Ra Mi now at Luxbet

#4 – Pinker Pinker (Barrier – 10) (56kgs)

Trainer: Greg Eurell

Jockey: Dwayne Dunn

Career Stats: 10s – 4w – 1p

Last Start: 4th at Rosehill

Won two from four this prep and is yet to finish outside the first four. 3.5 lengths off the pace last star but she doesn’t like the dead surface..

Bet on Pinker Pinker now at Luxbet

#5 – Mirjulisa Lass (Barrier – 17) (56kgs)

Trainer: Gregory Hickman

Jockey: Corey Brown

Career Stats: 16s – 5w – 4p

Last Start: 1st at Rosehill

Won the Storm Queen stakes in excellent style as a 50 to 1 outsider. Barrier raw has killed her here though and it’ll take a monster ride by Corey Brown to give her a chance.

Bet on Mirjulisa Lass now at Luxbet

#6 – Placement (Barrier – 11) (56kgs)

Trainer: Danny O’Brien

Jockey: Chris Munce

Career Stats: 16s – 0w – 8p

Last Start: 11th at Randwick

This horse was going to get a break through win for all money this preparation but once again has finished just off the pace. Last two runs she’s slowed up considerably and unfortunately she’ll need to look to spring.

Bet on Placement now at Luxbet

#7 – Fibrillation (Barrier – 8) (56kgs)

Trainer: Tim Martin

Jockey: Damien Oliver

Career Stats: 7s – 1w – 3p

Last Start: 2nd at Rosehill

Outstanding horse that was a real chance last week even after a wide run left her with plenty to do. With a bit more luck expect to see the silver fern colours flying home late.

Bet on Fibrillation now at Luxbet

#8 – Crafty Irna (Barrier – 15) (56kgs)

Trainer: Ron Quinton

Jockey: Glyn Schofield

Career Stats: 9s – 2w – 2p

Last Start: 1st at Randwick

This year has been her year with two wins from the last three runs. Quinton can’t spruik her chances enough so she could be a roughie to watch.

Bet on Crafty Irna now at Luxbet

#9 – Absolutely (Barrier – 3) (56kgs)

Trainer: Michael Kent

Jockey: Brad Rawiller

Career Stats: 6s – 0w – 5p

Last Start: 2nd at Morphettville

Comes here after not finding a debut win in the Adelaide Autumn Carnival but adding two more placings to the record. Probably only a place chance again here.

Bet on Absolutely now at Luxbet

#10 – Becerra (Barrier – 12) (56kgs)

Trainer: Lee Freedman

Jockey: Jim Cassidy

Career Stats: 11s – 2w – 1p

Last Start: 3rd at Randwick

Third behind Crafty Irna last start but otherwise a fruitless Autumn season. Doesn’t have the pace to figure here.

Bet on Becerra now at Luxbet

#11 – Dating (Barrier – 9) (56kgs)

Trainer: G & D Rogerson

Jockey: Hugh Bowman

Career Stats: 11s – 4w – 2p

Last Start: 4th at Trentham

Fourth in the New Zealand Oaks just over a length off the pace. New Zealand form hasn’t been great but she’s yet to race these runners and who knows what shape she’ll be in after the flight.

Jockey: Nash Rawiller

Career Stats: 12s – 3w – 1p

Last Start: 6th at Rosehill

Went three in a row before struggling last start start in the Storm Queen. Wasn’t disgraced in sixth though and you wouldn’t discount Waller to present her as a place chance.

Bet on Iron Lace now at Luxbet

Career Stats: 10s – 1w – 3p

Last Start: 8th at Randwick

Ran ok up around Warwick Farm even claiming a Stakes placing. Was a mile behind Crafty Irna last start though and will be 100 to 1.

Bet on Rose Of Peace now at Luxbet

Jockey: Tim Clark

Career Stats: 12s – 1w – 3p

Last Start: 5th at Randwick

A Canterbury second placing is the best result this year and that’s the way it’ll stay after this run.

Bet on Bride Salama now at Luxbet

#15 – Lady Lohnro (Barrier – 16) (56kgs)

Jockey: Peter Wells

Career Stats: 6s – 2w – 1p

Last Start: 13th at Randwick

Even with a good barrier this horse should and will be triple figures.

Bet on Lady Lohnro now at Luxbet

Career Stats: 7s – 1w – 2p

Last Start: 1st at Wyong

Coming off a win in a maiden but a more accurate form guide would be the 11th two starts back seven lengths behind Brazilian Pulse

Bet on Avarelli now at Luxbet

Jockey: Brenton Avdulla

Career Stats: 5s – 0w – 1p

Last Start: 9th at Randwick

Isn’t quite as bad as the career stats suggest but connections are certainly asking too much of the filly to win here at Group 1 level.

Bet on Dreamworker now at Luxbet

The 2011 AJC Australian Oaks Field has no shortage of quality with genuine chances right through the field.

All up there are 17 contenders for the race headlines by the Australian derby winner Shamrocker.

Her career stats are 12 starts for four wins and three places but it’s her recent performances, claiming two Group 1 victories which are most important.

She beat the boys last start and plenty of punters are backing her to take care of the girls in the Australian Oaks but she certainly won’t have it all her own way.

Brazilian Pulse beat Shamrocker the last time they met which was in the VRC Oaks last spring.

The VRC Oaks has a good history of providing winners for the AJC Oaks and a win for Brazilian Pulse would make her the 16th such horse.

She’s won five races from her nine starts and is yet to miss a place.

Last start in the Storm Queen Stakes she was a heavy favourite but was last on the turn before putting in an amazing run to grab third spot.

Mirjulisa Lass won that race but will have plenty to do in the Oaks from the widest barrier.

Fibrillation overcame a tricky barrier and no racing luck in the Storm Queen to run second with a wide run late.

In this race she has a much better barrier and with some luck is also a major player.

Do Ra Mi was considered a real threat in the Storm Queen but failed to make an impact despite having the run of the race.

She’ll need to improve rapidly but can choose her position again from barrier 2.

Betting on the 2011 Australian Oaks is soon to get underway at Luxbet.

Futures betting is now open even before the weights and fields have been announced for the 2011 Australian Oaks on Doncaster Mile Day at Royal Randwick, Saturday April 16th.

Brazilian Pulse has got out of the gates best and is listed as favourite with Luxbet for the $550,000 Group 1 Australian Oaks to be run over 2400m.

She’s currently a $6.50 favourite to claim the race ahead of 93 other horses which still have a chance of making the final field.

In her first race this year the Michael Moroney trained filly ran second in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes over 1400m behind Do Ra Mi.

She’ll be good for the run though and will certainly benefit by the big 1000m jump in distance.

Do Ra Mi is also towards the top of betting but punters aren’t quite as confident and you can still get $15 about the three-year-old filly on Luxbet.

Some of the other big contenders for the 2011 Australian Oaks include:

Shamrocker – This filly shocked the Group 1 Australian Guineas field by storming home to a big win at massive odds over the 1600m trek. The Danny O’Brien horse will be nowhere enar those odds again and is currently $9 with Luxbet.

Southern Speed – This filly was unbeaten when taking out the Group 3 Mitty’s vanity over 1400m but had horrible luck in the Australian Guineas with a seventh placing actually a decent result. Deserves better luck at the barrier draw this time and is currently at $11 with Luxbet for the race.

Rose Of Peace – Also at $11 with Luxbet this Gary Portelli trained filly came third behind Parables in the Group 2 Surround Stakes very 1400m and is another who looks like enjoying the longer trip.

Pinker Pinker – Won a Group 2 and Group 3 back to back this year and has already made plenty of punters very happy. She is surely paying overs for the Australian Oaks at $15 on Luxbet.

As you can see at this early stage there is plenty of value on the betting markets with no shortage of returns available to punters willing to take a bit of a gamble.

To grab any of these odds before they eventually drop make sure you register an account now with Luxbet.

It’s free to join and have a look around and once you decide to get involved they’ll match your initial deposit with a free bet of equal value!

In fact you can claim up to $400 right now just for joining Australia’s fastest growing online bookmaker.

Make sure you check back on April 13th when the 2011 Australian Oaks Final Field is released along with barrier draws and weights.

So quickly head to Luxbet now before these great odds disappear!

The 2011 Australian Oaks will take place at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday April 16 for Doncaster Mile Day and 94 three-year-old fillies were nominated for this year’s showdown.

Worth $550,000 in prize money and run over 2400m, the Group 1 Australian Oaks is one of three elite level races on the Randwick race-card for April 16 along with the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and the $350,000 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).

Of the 94 early entries heading towards a spot in the 2011 Australian Oaks field, early favourites include:

Brazilian Pulse (Michael Moroney) – Last year’s Crown Oaks winning filly resumed with a first-up second to Do Ra Mi in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m), will improve over the season with more runs over more distance

Shamrocker (Danny O’Brien)- Smart O’Reilly filly was second to Brazilian Pulse in the Crown Oaks last prep, enjoyed an upset win in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington last start bringing her into Oaks contention

More Strawberries (Gai Waterhouse) – Best chance Waterhouse has of winning successive Australian Oaks after scoring with Once Were Wild in 2010, More Than Ready filly is a multiple Group winner and Group 1 placegetter in the Flight Stakes last spring – most recently ran a game fourth in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm

Kings Rose (Jason Bridgeman) – Super consistent Redoute’s Choice filly from New Zealand has enjoyed a succession of recent wins including her latest victory in the Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) on February 12

Do Ra Mi (Peter Snowden) – Daughter of Savabeel is on the up and up, has won three of her seven starts to date including a great 2 ½ length victory over Brazilian Pulse in the Kewney Stakes on March 12

Lights Of Heaven (Peter Moody) – Unbeaten Zabell filly, lightly-raced with just three starts but has won all including her success in the Group 2 Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 4

Southern Speed (Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas) – Impressive South Australian filly won her first three career starts including the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) at Flemington before a horror barrier draw saw her finish seventh in the Australian Guineas, returned to form with a devastatingly close second in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on March 14

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Once Were Wild outclassed her rivals in the $350,000 Group 1 Patinack Farm AJC Oaks (2400m) when she claimed an upset win securing her maiden Group 1 victory ahead of the hot pre-race favourite Faint Perfume.

Once Were Wild ($9) coasted to a surprisingly impressive three and a half length win ahead of Bart Cumming’s talented Vinery Stud Stakes winner Faint Perfume ($2.30), who did well to come from second-last to chase down the field and finish runner-up, with the John Thompson-trained Run For Naara ($12) a further five lengths further back in a distant third.

The filly fighting for favouritism in the AJC Oaks betting markets all week with Faint Perfume was the Tony Vasil-trained Valdemoro ($3.60), who failed to fire on the day finishing a well-beaten eighth after settling at the back of the field and not improving pace on the straight.

Ridden expertly by Nash Rawiller, Once Were Wild took to the front early, but then eased back to settle in a mid-field position allowing Slapstick to take the lead.

Then at the top of the straight, the eventual winner charged to the front once again, surging forward and maintaining her dominance for the imposing win.

Inside the 300m Once Were Wild ran beautifully as Faint Perfume gave chase, proving her skill winning at Group 1 level in her first preparation.

Once Were Wild’s jockey Nash Rawiller also enjoyed success in the feature race at the meeting on Saturday when he claimed victory in the $1.5 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) aboard Rangirangdoo.

Rawiller and Waterhouse had endured a tumultuous week in and out of court as Waterhouse fought for the right to have her stable jockey ride Theseo in the Doncaster, even though he had legally been engaged to ride the Chris Waller-trained Rangirangdoo.

Despite Waterhouse losing the hearing, all was made well again in the AJC Oaks as the jockey – trainer duo put everything aside to celebrate Once Were Wild’s magic win, which was Waterhouse’s third AJC Oaks victory after her previous success with Coco Cabana (2000) and Sunday Joy (2003).

Johannesburg filly Once Were Wild, purchased for just $55,000 as a yearling, is enjoying a promising start to her career now having won six of her eight career starts for over $330,000 in prizemoney in her first campaign.

Waterhouse also trained her new star filly’s dam, Wildesong.

Aside from the AJC Oaks and Doncaster Mile, the third Group 1 race at Randwick on Saturday, the $300,000 The James Boag Galaxy (1100m) was won by classy mare Ortensia, while Star Of Octagonal won the $125,000 Group 3 South Pacific Classic (1400m).

Premier Caulfield-based trainer Peter Moody has lost one of his fillies from this Saturday’s $350,000 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m), Ocean Dream, as he attempts to win his first AJC Oaks.

The improving daughter of Redoute’s Choice has been withdrawn from the race following advice from veterinarians, leaving Moody with just one runner in the classic feature.

Ocean Dream, who was coming off a sixth place finish in the Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes, was due to be ridden by champion hoop Glen Boss.

Boss is now without a ride in the AJC Oaks or the $1.5 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile on Saturday following the scratching of Walking or Dancing from the day’s premier event earlier in the week.

Moody still has his last start Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) winner Speedy Natalie engaged in the 2010 AJC Oaks, due to jump from the ideal barrier two.

Speedy Natalie is currently a $6 chance with SportsBet for a win on Saturday, as the Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume and Tony Vasil’s classy Encosta De Lago filly Valdemoro dominate the betting markets sitting at $2.25 and $3.20 respectively.

If the punters and bookies are spot on, it will be a repeat of last spring’s VRC Oaks quinella.

This Saturday as part of the elite line-up of races held at Randwick on Doncaster Mile Day, 12 brilliant three-year-old fillies will take to the track in the $350,000 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m).

The pre-race favourite for the 2010 Patinack Farm AJC Oaks is classy Shamardal filly Faint Perfume, trained by the legendary Bart Cummings.

Having drawn out wide in barrier 11 seems to have done no harm to Faint Perfume’s popularity with the punters as the last-start Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes (2000m) winner aims for her sixth career victory.

A victory on Saturday would make Faint Perfume a dual Oaks winner as she took out the VRC Oaks (2500m) last spring.

Faint Perfume’s biggest rival in the AJC Oaks will be the Tony Vasil-trained daughter of Encosta De Lago, Valdemoro. The slightly less experienced filly has shown exceptional skill over her eight-race career, and ran a gallant second to Faint Perfume in the Storm Queen on April 4.

Valdemoro too has drawn poorly for Saturday and is the only horse to start on the outside of Faint Perfume in barrier 12.

Third placegetter in the Storm Queen Stakes, Absolute Faith, is also backing up with a run in the Australian Oaks on Saturday and will jump from gate nine with Brad Rawiller aboard.

Other top chances in the 2010 AJC Australian Oaks include last start winner of the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) Speedy Natalie, the improving Peter Moody-trained filly having fared will with barrier two, stablemate to Speedy Natalie Ocean Dream in barrier three, and Gai Waterhouse’s consistent Johannesburg filly Once Were Wild also drawn well in barrier four

The 2010 Patinack Farm AJC Oaks is due to jump at 2:55pm as the fifth race on a bumper eight-race programme, headlined by the $1.5 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m). And a third Group 1 event will take place at Randwick on Saturday, the $300,000 The James Boag Galaxy (1100m).
